School Groups & Planning Your Visit

Cost and Scheduling

Programs are: $1.00 per student per program (unless otherwise noted); teachers, chaperones and bus drivers are free. Please note: if your group has less than 10 students, a $10 minimum program fee applies.

Payments may be made in advance or the day of the program. We accept cash, checks (made out to the Bay County Historical Society) or VISA/MasterCard (on the day of the visit).

To schedule a program:  Scheduling a program is easy!  You will need:

  • Possible dates and times of your visit

  • Number of children and adults

  • Programs or Activities you would like to schedule (see program descriptions)

  • Address, phone number and e-mail

Reservations are required for educational or docent led programs

Contact Corrine at (989) 893-5733 to schedule your program. Please call at least TWO WEEKS in advance of your anticipated visit.

To tour on your own:  If you do not wish a guided program, Museum admission is free.  However, due to space constraints, it can be difficult for multiple groups to maneuver through the Museum at one time.  Therefore, if you wish to visit and bring your group for a self-guided tour, we ask that groups with 10 or more individuals call to reserve your time so we do not book other larger groups during your preferred time.

Late Arrivals, Cancellations & Weather Policy:

If your group is late for your scheduled program, every effort will be made to work in as much program content as possible. However, due to scheduling constraints some adjustments might be needed to keep departure time punctual. A $10.00 cancellation fee may be charged for groups that do not show up, or cancel without 72 hours' notice. Exceptions may be made for inclement weather.

Chaperones:

For programs held at the Museum, we ask that all groups be accompanied by two or more adults. For programs held at City Hall we require three adults with the group.

Double Your Fun!

You may combine two programs of your choice.

Please note that the length of the programs may have to be adjusted to accommodate your bussing or lunch schedules.

Something to think about...

Program times do not include time to explore the gallery at length or visit the Museum Store. You are more than welcome to schedule these activities into your visit; however you will need to plan time above and beyond program times to include them.

A field trip to the Historical Museum of Bay County can supplement and help strengthen your classrom curriculum. Our goal is to encourage learning in a fun and supportive atmosphere.
The following information will help you to explore the many ways the Museum can motivate your students and support your curriculum goals and objectives.

Program Information:  Most programs can be modified to accommodate any age group. Grades cited indicate the strongest tie to GLCEs.

Lunch:

The Museum does not have a lunch facility. However, the fall and spring provide an opportunity for student groups to bring their lunch and picnc at one of the many parks in the area.

Or.....

McDonald's across the street from the Museum offers students a coupon for a free dessert item for classrooms that have participated in a program at the Museum, and are having lunch at their restaurant. Ask for your coupon when you schedule.

Homeschool Groups:  All programs are available for homeschool groups. There is no minimum attendance required. However, if your group has less than 10 students, a $10.00 minimum program fee applies.
