CUSTODIAL/ MAINTENANCE

STATUS:                                                Part Time Hourly – Contracted (5 hours/ week)

SALARY:                                                $14/ hour

 

BASIC PURPOSE:

This varied custodial work involves some semi-skilled maintenance work.  Responsible for general cleaning, museum building and grounds maintenance, and repair.  Generally, work without supervision, receiving specific instructions on unusual jobs.  Reports to the Museum manager on duty.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clean assigned areas following established schedules; may include removing trash, sweeping and/or dust mopping floors, polishing hard surfaces, vacuuming carpets, cleaning windows and mirrors, dusting furniture, equipment, and ledges, wet mopping floors, and washing off tabletops, and countertops.
  • Perform special projects assigned may include shampooing carpets, stripping and waxing floors, washing walls, windows, baseboards, and scrubbing multi-purpose rooms.
  • Repair and maintain facilities, including painting of doors, windows, walls, fixtures, replace light bulbs, gallery exhibits and cases, and furniture and equipment.)
  • Take out trash and recycle.
  • Lock and unlock the Museum building and rooms and turn off lights.
  • Operate, clean and maintain assigned equipment for safety and cleanliness and report malfunctioning equipment (shovel snow, salt, garden equipment, maintain plantings. etc.).
  • Set up and tear down for events (tables & chairs).
  • Load, unload, and move supplies.
  • Sweep and/ or remove debris, leaves, snow and ice from steps and walks at building entrances.
  • Weed and waterfront garden and maintain commemorative brick walk.
  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as directed by the Museum managers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or the equivalent.
  • Two years of building custodial work experience preferred.
  • Lift a minimum of 50lb
